Reason: The Protected View mode in MS Office is blocking access to the secured files downloaded from dataroom.
Solution: Disable Protected View mode on the MS Office documents.
To open the protected Office documents (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) from the dataroom you need to disable the Protected View mode in each Microsoft Office application.
Follow these steps below to make the changes:
- Open an Office application (Word, Excel or Powerpoint).
- Click File and then choose Options.
- Click Trust Center and then Trust Center Settings.
- Click Protected View and finally disable (uncheck) the first of the options listed (“Enable Protected View for files originating from the Internet”).
After doing this, you will be able to open the protected Office files without problems (if the problem persists, you might need to reboot your computer).
Note: you need to repeat the above steps for each of the Office applications (Word, Excel and Powerpoint).
Additionally, if there is a Overriding rule under the "File Block" settings to force open 2007 Office formats in protect mode, this needs to disabled too to allow access.
Open an Office application (the one you are having the issue with; Word, Excel or Powerpoint):
- Click File and then choose Options.
- Click Trust Center and then Trust Center Settings.
- Click File Block Settings and make sure that the file type option “Word/Excel/Powerpoint 2007 and later Documents and Templates” is not marked (ticked) as Open.
